Campaign for Children and Families? Not exactly...

I submitted this letter to the editor of the San Francisco Chronicle this afternoon, after reading about Arnold Schwarzenegger's plan to veto the "gay text" bill that would have allowed for history books in California's school systems to provide information about contributions made by lesbian, gay and transgender people. The article appears at http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/05/25/MNGL3J2CTK4.DTL

My letter was submitted as follows -

Editor,

Your article about Governor Schwarzenegger misguided plan to veto the "gay text" bill describes Randy Thomasson's group, Campaign for Children and Families, as a group opposed to expanding gay rights. After visiting CCF's site, savecalifornia.com, I am convinced that leaving out the word "expanding" would have been a more accurate description of this organization's mission, as it is clear that they are opposed to gay rights in general. As a matter of fact, I offer up that a more fitting name for their organization would be Campaign for (some) Children and (some) Families.

What a shame that some people, such as Thomasson and Schwarzenegger, can only feel powerful or successful when they are keeping others down, and that they use children as pawns in their evil games.

Thanks for listening, have a great day.
